Auch Würzburg beteiligt sich am Wissenschaftsjahr 2011, das unter dem Motto "Forschung für unsere Gesundheit" steht. Die Wirtschaftsförderung der Stadt Würzburg hat gemeinsam mit renommierten Partnern eine Vortragsreihe initiiert, bei der lokale Experten unterschiedliche Aspekte zum Thema Gesundheit beleuchten. Die Vortragsreihe beginnt am 8. Juni 2011.

we would like to invite you to the 27. Ernst Klenk Symposium in Molecular Medicine on “Lipid metabolic diseases: novel developments in molecular pathology and therapy”, which will be held on October 02 - 04, 2011 in the Main Lecture Hall of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne, Germany.
As key note speakers Nobel Prize laureates Joseph L. Goldstein and Michael Brown (Univ. of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, USA) will share the podium for the Ernst Klenk Lecture entitled "Surviving Starvation: Essential Role of the Ghrelin-Growth Hormone Axis" on Monday, Oct. 03, 2011 at 6 p.m. Internationally leading scientists in the field of lipidomics, lipid biochemistry, cell biology and metabolic diseases will discuss the state-of-the-art research in four sections:

• Novel tools in the molecular pathology of metabolic diseases
• Pathophysiology of lipid metabolism and cholersterol homeostasis
• Atherosclerosis, inflammation and thrombosis
• Obesity and insulin resistance

Please find enclosed the program and the poster of the Klenk Symposium 2011. This symposium is organized by the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) with the intention to provide a forum for discussion of novel developments in this rapidly developing area of biomedical research and addresses scientists and students from academia and industry. The symposium starts on Sunday, Oct. 02, 2011 at 2.00 p.m. and ends on Tuesday, Oct. 04, 2011 at around 1.00 p.m. Participation of the symposium is free of charge. "Horizons in  Molecular Biology", 14-17th of September 2011 in Göttingen

Dear students, colleagues and faculty,

We are happy to announce the 8th “Horizons in Molecular Biology” meeting that will take place on 14-17th of September 2011 in Göttingen.

The symposium is organized by PhD students of the International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Biology at the University of Göttingen and is under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan.

Like in the past, the PhD student symposium features many renowned scientists as speakers. This year we will be happy to welcome Alan Fersht, Petra Schwille, Sriram Subramaniam, Harvey Lodish and many other successful scientists and excellent speakers. Covering all stages of the hierarchy of life, there will be sessions on molecular-, cellular-, organismal levels and systems biology. The Horizons meeting offers an excellent platform for established researchers and young scientists to meet and discuss science. Especially PhD students profit from the chance to present their own research in a poster or a talk and get valuable input in an international surrounding.

We invite you to have a look at the program at www.horizons.uni-goettingen.de. Early registration deadline is July 31, however registration is possible until the start of the meeting. Please keep in mind though that abstracts have to be submitted by July 31. It has become a tradition that the Horizons meeting is preceded by a Career Fair that will include presentations on various career opportunities, the possibility to directly meet with representatives of interesting companies, live CV-check, speed dating and much more. The Career Fair will take place on September 14. Participation in the Career Fair is free of charge.

Both events will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry.
